Description
Rolo: I brought Rolo as a 3 year old as a project and family pony but, due to work commitments, his training has been intermittent and the child we were lead reining off of him has now grown too big for him. Exmoor cross Warmblood and standing at 13.2hh, he is a little, but stocky pony with a large personality and lots of character - he is eminently loveable and enjoys being groomed, having a bath and drinking water from the hose. He is still very young in himself and likes to play with things if they’re left in his vicinity, e.g. pulling at a rug left over a door. He has a sixth sense for when any treats are squirrelled away on your person and can be a bit obsessed if he knows it’s around - not viscous or anything, just perseverant. He can be led by small children and will just follow them, but if there are food buckets around he will dive for them! He is a fairly brave, curious pony: he will go into the local river, which he quite enjoys; walk over the M1 bridge near us without any concern; isn’t bothered by vehicles of any kind, including tractors and gators. He has been ridden in company and out alone on and off lead rein. He is more confident on lead rein when out alone surrounded by lots of people but this is simply because I haven’t taken him out on his own much as I would like. I have used him to lead rein a yearling around the block a few times and be behaved beautifully while the colt was clinging to him. In the school, he is good to lunge (though likes to change direction occasionally on his own terms). Because of my own time constraints, I haven’t done much schooling with him and he isn’t fit enough to do much at the moment, but he will walk and trot around the school, typically bending off the leg. Alongside myself he has been ridden by sister who is on the Autistic spectrum and rides with the RDA and her balance and cues are often out of sync which can confuse him. He still young in his head and what he has experienced, so he does need clear cues but with firm, consistent boundaries and lots of love and praise he is very eager to please and as long as he understands what he needs to do, he will do it. Once he has built up more of a top line, and developed his fitness, he will make an amazing pony club pony and can easily carry a small adult for a parent to ride should they wish to do so. He is easy to load in a trailer and has never been shod so is currently barefoot. I am only selling him because he is now too small for anyone in my family but me to ride and I have multiple other commitments and a youngster to work with so he doesn’t get the attention he deserves.
