- Hendricks 16.3 7 year old registered sports horse - grab a cuppa it’s a long one and please read fully before contacting me.
VERY honest write up! Absolute bargain if you are looking for a solid hunter! I do believe there a person out there for him to match his character and personality, my groom being one of them and would have him if she was looking for another as she adores him!
Quite frankly Hendricks is a really lovely boy but can be a bit of a t*at sometimes, unless he is out hunting. If you want a saint at all times don’t bother reading any further, he really does need the right person and isint a horse I want to sugar coat.
Whilst I appreciate this is not going to be a very professional add and probably the most honest I could ever be about a horse he is one i feel I need to be very upfront about to find his perfect match to have the best fun with!
Out and out Hunter/team chaser for a man or a lady and is lots of fun! Is a very easy and enjoyable ride out hunting and team chasing and fills you with confidence when jumping. Heart of a lion to a fence even if it’s bigger than him!
Very reasonable for a horse of his breeding - Very well bred sports horse with master imp, kings master, scally print and blue print lines. He’s very handsome, jet black and oozes quality and talent but quite frankly I would like to see the back of him, with talent comes character right?
He is the most annoying horse you will come across on the yard, whilst he has absolutely no vices he’s got the personality on a baby and whatever he can do to annoy you when he’s on the yard he will. Leave a headcollar in reach, he will swing it round and chuck it on the floor, leave a rug or a brush in reach you can bet it will be across the yard the second you turn your back (he’s not a chewer). Tie him to the gate he will bang his headcollar/lead rope clip on the metal as he loves the noise. He will cutely turn his head for a treat or love you to squish flick and wiggle his nose. My groom finds him sweet and hilarious and just laughs at him.He is by no means stressy or anything like that, he just loves to be the center of attention. I’m sure he’s got adhd in horse form.
He craves attention but pulls a face in the stable if you don’t give it him. I’ve never known a horse like him.
I have them in at the moment as the grounds so bad but last year when he was out in the day and in at night he was completely different, maybe that’s because I’m always on the yard and around so I notice him more. He did live out in the summer and again wasn’t a problem so maybe he just needs the right environment or set up for him. Who knows!
The Ideal home for him would be someone who didn’t have a school and did lots of hacking and funrides arena hires xc ect to keep fit then took him hunting. Or someone who wants a pure hunter that hunts then just chucks them out in the field for the summer.
Happy for him to be tried out with the farmers bloodhounds to someone who is serious about buying and not just out for a joy ride on a machine of a horse and of course if he’s still here by then if he’s still here by then after this advert as he’s a bargain.
**Doesn’t like hacking alone**
Now the (in my opinion, but maybe not others) bad stuff is over, if you’ve got this far and he sounds like a horse you can laugh at his character here he is -
I have had him 7 months and been quietly producing him to do a job, he is now available to fund my heart horse coming back from Dubai as the flights very costly!
Hunting - I’ve found him to be an amazing hunter, and this is where his heart is so I would quite like him to go as one. Petite ladies hunter or even a man. He will be the best hunter you can buy for the mon*y and is very pleasurable, in a universal to hunt and isint strong in this. There is NO country he won’t cross and he doesn’t say no. Huge hedges, gated, rails, ditches, drains, walls anything. He stands at the meet and is very mannerly. He’s big enough to be a man’s hunter and has done opening meet this season with a tall man who had never sat on him before prior. Hes done a few farmers bloodhounds meets too (again with 2 petite ladies who had never ridden him before) He will go anywhere in the field but wants to find someone who’s equally as game as him and wants to be out jumping and having a good time. He will stand at the meet and is good with hounds.
Hes hunted in a snaffle and would be fine for a man or larger lady in one but smaller girls who aren’t strong like me would find him a bit leany, though he does always pull up when asked. The man who hunted him was in the hunt service and said that he would make a excellent whips or field masters horse but I haven’t done this with him so couldn’t say if he would be up to this job or not.
When he’s been out a few hours if you go home and away from the pack he is fine with this.
He’s currently fully fit and did a very big meet with the bloodhounds last Sunday.
He has team chased last season doing every meet and run clear every time. Would step up through the heights easily as he’s very scopey, he thoroughly enjoyed team chasing.
Hes done lots of xc schooling, dressage, producing lovely tests he has good flatwork and works well in a nice soft outline, is amazing at flying changes on both reins, can leg yield ect he would suit purely dressage but I do feel he would be wasted and would prefer him to have a varied life.
He has done an ode with good dressage and sj but needs work in the xc with jumping ditches on his own. Hes only ever had to do a couple and likes to have a look. If hes hunting and following someone he just pops nicely.
Hacking - 100% in traffic and not a nervous or spooky type and is quite chilled/easy in company and quiet as a lamb. Happily rides and leads from another horse, Good in open spaces but won’t hack alone, we’ve only tried a couple of times and he will do the few loops he knows but he is a nappy sh*t when you try take him further, will just stop/plant and rear till you turn back. He’s fine with someone on foot and bike or if you get behind him and clap but that’s not ideal, so would suit someone who hacks in company then he is anyone’s ride, my 11 year old even hacks him. As he gets older and matures more I think he would get better with persistence. For this reason I couldn’t say he would make a good huntsman horse as I’m not a huntsman so he hasn’t done this, I’ve had a few people ask about that in my opinion it’s not worth the risk. He’s perfect in the field and has been out on the busiest of days with 180+ horses out and behaved impeccable. He will go away from his friend when hacking to jump hedges ect and even go home. Like I said he’s a weirdo!
Schooling at home and arena hires - again perfect and my 11 year olds jumped him at home and I have had other kids riding him here 14/15 year olds - in a snaffle, he’s the easiest horse to get in an outline and jumps lovely.
I do feel he is one that would go sour/stuffy in the school if he was in there too often. We school/lunge him once or twice a week and hack the rest of the time for fitness and he’s fine with this.
**Can pop the odd buck in if he’s fresh, he’s just had a week off, been stood in the stable and had a viewing today 10/02/2025 - perfect for my groom but then the lady got on he was fine till he jumped and then she completely buried him twice at a fence he’s so honest and still jumped, the first time he tolerated it the next he bucked after the fence. She got off and said he wasnt for her - fair enough. My groom then got back on jumped the same fence he was perfect. Whether or not this was him being fresh, having a second person on which he’s not had before or for a while, different style of riding, if it was him trying to have a nap and play on a new person or not tolerating the bad stride who knows! He has never done this out hunting and has never been nappy to hunt even when others stop at fences. Just being completely transparent.
Show jumping - would need a frim but fair or professional rider in this aspect for him to progress further, he’s jumped up to 1.10 in the ring and bigger training at home. he has done a handful of unaffiliated, combined training and BS shows, not a amazing record due to not being the right rider, rider being jumped off from his big back end - we’ve not had this problem.
Some days he’s excellent, but you do very much have to pamper to his needs and understand him. You literally have to take him into the ring and jump, if someone’s coming out as he goes in he will nap to them, we just wait for the entrance to be clear and go in. We have also made the mistake before of waiting for them to put fences up and cantering a few laps if canter around the bottom end of the arena between the jumps, then when he then went to start and approach fence 1 he napped back onto the circle he had been cantering but doesn’t take much to get him going after. So it’s just about nannying him and learning how to deal with him. If you sit quietly and ride him through it let him have a strop he’s fine.
When taking him to onley recently we have found he doesn’t like jumping indoors, or at least arenas with big sides or enclosed. This could have been a one off or him having a bad day but just being honest from what I’ve seen: I’d say it goes back to the hacking on his own thing, where he can’t see the others, he warms up perfect indoors with others around, arena hires indoors again perfect, you can get in the ring then jump a few fences or half the course and he’ll look at a banner on the wall or pot of horse eating flowers or something and then just nap. This is only when jumping strangely and not when doing dressage. It’s probably something which will get better with more training and age, he jumps well and rarely touches a pole. For the above reasons I’m not selling him as a ready made show jumper but a project in this area. I’m sure someone would be able to produce him nicely in this sphere and he would be worth double but I just dont have the time to get him out and about.
He’s jumped some lovely clears recently and vids can be provided
Good to mount and mess about with, shoe, stands like a rock. Can clip without sedation, we do half a face or would need to twitch for ears.
Travels alone or in company on a lorry or a trailer.
Easy to handle, turn in/out, turns out with mares and geldings and good to catch.
Up to date with routine physio, teeth, fresh set of shoes just done, worming, vaccinations.
Not a novice or numpties ride - he’s a well bred competition horse and will take the mick and play on it if he knows he can, so no good for a nervous Nellie. He needs a home with a proper job where he can excel!
Good fun teens horse
Lovely conformation, good strong feet, very straight and correct and moves to die for, no lumps, bumps, sarcoids or anything, clean legs and wind and in good health with no concerns. He’s got a small cut on the top of his leg by his chest which he did a week ago but has healed nicely.
Very reasonably pr!ced as a hunter/tc or project but he isint tb mon*y infact ive seen tbs for more and im not giving him away, he will be an asset to someone who wants to do the same thing as him and doesn’t mind his quirky personality.
Sorry for the lengthy post but I’d rather put everything out there from the off and filter out the idiots who see a nice looking horse and think they can have him to look pretty and pootle about on as he’s not that. He wants and needs a job to keep his brain busy and thrives on work. I could easily sell him as a happy hacker but he lives to hunt. Thanks for reading!
