- Tia is a 6yo (2019) Irish Sport Horse mare (Vittorio x Courage II) standing approximately 16hh. She is approx. 57% blood and her dam is half sister to the dam of Gemma Stevens’ 5* eventer ride Santiago Bay. Although still green in the school she has a very willing and trainable attitude towards her work and is showing that she has 3 smart paces that in time will produce a beautiful test. Tia is great to hack alone and in company and has always been very bold leading the way from the first day she started hacking under saddle. She has the odd occasion she is still slightly wary of larger traffic and just needs to take confidence from the rider when she meets something bigger. She is also great in open spaces and is never strong or silly. We have not over jumped her and have been slowly and carefully producing her with her future in mind. We have schooled away from home with other horses where she was sensible and well behaved, standing still when asked to whilst others jumped. She’s also attended unaffiliated SJ where she jumped a clear round and was impeccably behaved in the warm up. Tia has also been schooling over XC fences at Pontispool and really impressed us with her attitude towards everything. We jumped a variety of things including the water, ditch and trakehner along with jumping through some of the combinations first time of asking with ease and always looking for her next fence. Tia has also been on a couple of beach rides with up to 7 other horses where she was happy to go at whatever speed she was asked to and went for a dip in the sea too. She has also enjoyed a day out Cubbing and trail hunting at the end of last year. Unfortunately Tia pulled a muscle in her stifle area back in April 2024 so has had some time off to recover which was longer than planned due to us being so busy with the yard. She still needs some work to continue building her fitness which is why she’s a fraction of the price a mare of this quality should be. We’ve done loads of hacking, lunging and pole work to help build up her fitness again and wouldn’t take too much for someone to get her up and going as I’m always struggling for time for my own horses She is good for the vet, dentist, physio, load, travel and catch and has no vices. She can still be fidgety with the farrier and requires a little patience but is never nasty. We think she would really excel in an Eventing home but would also suit a high level all rounder type home. She is straightforward enough for a competent amateur/young rider to bring on but does prefer a quiet rider as she is a little sensitive and not suitable for a novice due to her age. We are asking £7,000 for her and looking for a competitive home that’s willing to continue building her fitness before starting a competition career to see her reach her full potential. Alternatively I would be happy to keep the ride and produce her further on behalf of/in partnership with someone as this is a very difficult sale but sadly we’ve ended up with too many horses and a very large lorry plating bill and I can’t realistically afford to keep them all.
