- Description
- - Reluctant sale of Alonso
- Safe lead rein gelding, not remotely spooky, copes with the heaviest traffic.
- Loving family home most important (we want to stay in touch).
- Age 14 (DOB June 2010) - 10hh (I have not measured him personally).
- East Sussex/Kent border (TN19)
- Will go off lead rein in walk (and have lots of videos of him going off the lead rein) he is not consistent at this, so selling him as a lead rein pony. A more experienced rider might be fine off the lead rein and he could go further.
- SPSB registered
- Sire – Halstock Highland Mist. Dam – Halstock Nancy
- Showing quality and moves nicely could make a lovely in hand showing pony/driving pony (he hasn’t driven before)
- Up to date with jabs/teeth/farrier (unshod) never needed the vet with us.
- Comes with wardrobe.
- Lives out but happily stables too, we have done the sunshine tour recently and he was fine staying over in a new environment.
- He has been the most wonderful first pony to have at home but our daughter needs the next one up.
- I do his girth up (as will pull faces at my daughter when she does it up)
- Loves to be groomed painted etc. especially with a hay net.
- Falls asleep to clip
- Good to bath, but can get bored and paw the ground/move about etc. if it takes ages.
- Fabulous to load but you do need to leave swiftly (mucks about until you get going and then stands brilliantly while moving)
- We have had him for 18 months and he has done his job with us (previous owner had him for almost 8 yrs)
- Never had any health issues but we have him in a grazing muzzle (he can get very fat, like all Shetlands so we choose to control his weight preventatively)
What we have done:
- Lead rein showing – sweeps up at local shows (see pics). Lots of placings at the Sunshine Tour last month. We are not showing people but I feel he could do even better at this within a showing family setting
- Ride and lead hacking – I lead from my 5yr old connie and my daughter and I explore woodlands heavy traffic, open spaces, roads and have a lovely time chatting as we go.
- X-pole showjumping, including small working hunter at South of England Showground, where we came 2nd – with me leading them.
- Young handler classes – we have finally taught him that he can’t dive for grass!
- Pony club mini camp – this summer, including games, fancy dress, mini SJ etc……
- A small bit of adult in hand CHAPS/coloured class showing (not CHAPS registered yet)
- Polocrosse (just messing about at home)
- Sunshine tour at Hickstead – won a stack of rosettes
