Rou is a compact 16.1hh, 11 year old full TB ex racehorse who was re-trained correctly by a 5* event rider and has competed up to novice eventing and showjumped up to 1.20 with his previous jockey. We got Rou 3 1/2 years ago to jump open PC tetrathlon and event at 90/100 level plus various pony club activities. We believe he would excel at Grassroots level Eventing, and we got him downgraded for this purpose just recently.
He has three lovely, balanced paces and can produce a good dressage test, regularly scoring low 30s when out eventing. We also compete in a local dressage league where he has competed up to elementary and is working towards medium. His scores are usually high 60s to low 70s.
Rou absolutely loves to show jump and is not spooky with fillers/water trays, he is also very fast and manoeuvrable in a jump off.
On the cross country course he is a very safe ride and a confidence giver. When I got him I had previously fallen with a pony on a course which had really knocked my confidence but Rou helped me learn to love cross country again. My mother always knows that we are both going to come back safely which really speaks for itself. Rou always makes the time with ease at 90 and 100 level.
During our time with Rou we have discovered that one of our strongest disciplines is arena eventing. He absolutely adores it and will jump anything put in front of him. He has had amazing results at the pony club spring festival championships in 2022 where he was 3rd in the PC90 and 6th in the PC100. At the same championship in 2024 he was the PC90 spring festival champion and was 8th in the PC100. He was also the only horse that day to have no time faults which really shows just how easy it is for him to make optimum times.
Noticeable achievements:
Finished on his dressage of 27.8 at Hopetoun BE 90 2023
Finished on his dressage at Pony Club national championships 2023 to finish 8th individually
Voted best all round horse in our pony club this year
4th at Kirriemuir BE100 at the start of 2024
Made the Scotland BE100 u18 eventing team
has qualified for the Pony Club national championships every year we have had him
This horse has bags of personality, he is a dream to have at home and is easy to clip, load, travel and stands for the farrier and dentist. His feet benefit from a period every winter without shoes, and with shoes he needs overreach boots on at all times. We have never had any lameness issues with him. On Purchase we had his back X-rayed clear of any issues. He was also scoped with no signs of ulcers in 2023.
He prefers more time outside than inside, just well rugged up in winter time. He currently lives on a busy working dairy farm and has absolutely no issues with traffic of any kind. As he is a competiton horse he can get excitable which could bring out a few bucks, they are an expression of excitement and it is something that he will always do, so he therefore can not go to any novices or extremely nervous riders, and this reflected in his price. Rou has also been to countless stay away shows with us and is very well behaved once he has settled in.
This is a very sad sale of my horse of a lifetime who I wish I could keep forever. Only for sale because I am going away and he is too good a horse to stand in a field and do nothing.
He will be kept fit and competed until he finds his new special friend.
